Apple Tart

Not particularly strange and also not the best photograph! But it tasted really really good. I baked it in an Aga, which I am slowly getting used to. It is a really simple version of a Tarte Tatin. First I peeled five apples, chopped them in half and cored them. Then made a syrup using caster sugar, vanilla essence, 3 cloves, cinnamon and a splash of water which I melted down until it was thick and syrupy. I coated all the apple pieces in the syrup and left them to cook for a few minutes. Then, I added a few lumps of butter stirred it all up and covered the mixture with rolled out filo pastry pushing down the sides with a wooden spoon, popped it in the Aga for about 25 minutes and tipped it on to a plate. It was good.

Cake Break, raising money for The Multiple Sclerosis Society

These are the cakes I made at the Pat- a-Cake cake and coffee morning. To raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society who do great things for people and their families suffering from the effects of M.S. We taught the ladies how to make little carrots and sugar flowers. I particularly like to make sugar flowers. They are so tiny, and complex it's very relaxing! These are lemon cakes with lemon buttercream and sugar lilac hydrangea flowers, I reckon they were pretty tasty!

Clever Cakes For Kate

Kate is very clever, so we ( Tash and I ) made her some cakes, algebra cakes. I have no idea what the equations mean but I reckon they look pretty cool. I think Kate was pleased!

Moomin Mama Birthday Cake

Last friday I made a moomin mama cake for a friends birthday. I modelled the design on a page from one of Tove Jansson's Moomin books. I really like exaggerated piping. Cakes that look like proper birthday cakes! Inside the cake was marbled chocolate orange with orange curd and chocolate buttercream and I reckon it was pretty good! Most importantly Ash was pleased!
